How was your 100% natural and ethical French cosmetics brand, created by a woman no less, born?

My story is that of a caterpillar in search of the best branch to spin its cocoon, which will succeed in its gamble by becoming a prodigious butterfly with a thousand colors.
The little caterpillar is me, Stéphanie, your artisan of 100% vegan cosmetic products.

A young woman's journey to contribute to a better world.

I'm Stéphanie, the creator of Un Battement d’aile, your brand of 100% natural cosmetics made in France.

Starting from nothing, I built myself up through my experiences. I first explored the professional world from all angles for a few years before finding my way. I worked a series of jobs until I discovered the world of cosmetics, which immediately captivated me.
I then became a representative for a major luxury brand. However, a disconnect quickly grew between my vision of consumption and the world I was evolving in.
But at that stage, there was still a long way to go before I could fulfill my deepest aspirations.
My job at the time allowed me a great deal of freedom, and I started to travel.
Far from organized excursions and tourist visits, I would set off, often alone, with my backpack to meet others.

My motto: "explore the world in search of meaning while respecting the environment."

From Asia to Latin America, passing through a few European countries, each destination offered me the opportunity to learn more about myself and our planet.

These experiences abroad have allowed me to grow, learn, and question myself throughout this period.

In 2014, cut off from all civilization, in the heart of the Amazon rainforest in Peru, I became aware of the importance of protecting our Nature.
As an ecovolunteer at a woolly monkey rehabilitation center in Lagunas, I witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of humans on wildlife and flora. This event changed my worldview and prompted me, upon my return to France, to find a way to do my part.

This idea germinated in my heart like a seed planted in fertile soil.
My mission was to continue to nourish it with natural resources and authentic actions so that this seed would transform into a tree with powerful roots.

The birth of an ethical and responsible company.

It was during my last trip to Costa Rica that I knew the time had come for me to act. While contemplating nature in an idyllic and wild setting where my thoughts drifted to the sounds of macaws flying over the beach, I decided that it was time for me to take flight too.

Back in France, the Covid epidemic was sweeping across the world!

This was a wonderful opportunity for me to take action and demonstrate my commitment to our planet... Combining my skills in the beauty industry with my desire to do my part, I decided to create my own French company from scratch, producing parabene-free, aluminum-free, and preservative-free cosmetics.

My wish was to give birth to a brand with meaning and responsible values, offering you, the consumer-actor, the opportunity to choose your future.

I then embarked on a period of experimentation and research. The goal was to find the best possible combination of ingredients that met a very strict set of specifications that I imposed on myself:

100% natural ingredients (mostly organic);
respect for animals;
respect for the planet;
reducing the carbon footprint;
recyclable, upcyclable packaging;
and of course, above all, comfort for you, my dear consumer-actors.

Like a promise made to the Earth, I allowed no compromises in honoring it.

My very first product is the Un Battement d’aile deodorant, which came about after a meticulous testing phase.

Around thirty versions were tested on the most diverse panel of testers possible. The ideal formula then emerged from the pack!

Unique and effective, naturally absorbing moisture and preventing the development of bad odors.

The influence of a meaningful artisanal brand with strong values

The butterfly, flitting from flower to flower, gathering delicious nectar, constantly works to safeguard and protect plant diversity. This pollination process is the very essence behind the creation of Un Battement d’aile.

My ambition is to spread good vibes through the development of my natural and responsible cosmetic products, which influence behaviors and the well-being of our planet.

Eco-responsibility

In the Un Battement d’aile brand ecosystem, all actions are carefully considered in advance to respect the planet:

A portion of sales profits is donated to support environmental actions with the 1% for the Planet collective.
100% of my cosmetic products are made in France, thus limiting the carbon footprint.
A zero-waste policy, with aluminum packaging designed to be 100% infinitely recyclable.

Animal welfare

Un Battement d’Aile respects nature and living beings!

Committed to animal welfare, it was inconceivable for me to source my ingredients from farms that use animals to facilitate their harvests.

Furthermore, my cosmetic products are not tested on animals under any circumstances!
And the added bonus across my entire range is that the recipes I create are 100% vegan!

The use of French olive wax instead of beeswax is one example.

The ingredients used in my cosmetic product formulas are mostly:

organically grown;
fair trade;
free from monoculture;
free from monkey labor for harvests.

As you will have gathered, from caterpillar to butterfly, my metamorphosis has been gradual and enriching.

My motto will always be to prioritize quality over quantity, in order to offer you the quintessence in terms of natural cosmetic products accessible to all.
